The European Commission has announced €2.9 billion of funding awarded to 61 innovative net-zero technology projects across Europe through the Innovation Fund, financed by revenues generated from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

The projects have been funded under the call for net-zero technologies, IF24 Call, launched in December 2024, with the aim of strengthening Europe’s technological leadership and optimising the deployment of innovative decarbonization solutions.

The projects funded cover 19 sectors of industry and are situated in 18 EU Member States, covering many strategic areas concerning innovation on net-zero technology: energy-intensive industries, renewable energy and energy storage, clean mobility and buildings, cleantech manufacturing, and industrial carbon management.

Taken together, the projects are expected to deliver a reduction of around 221 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent during their first 10 years of operation, equivalent to the annual emissions of 9.9 million European cars, providing direct support for the EU’s goal for climate neutrality by 2050.
